altDennis (DOC) O’Connor, President of DOCOM Consulting, offers more than 25 years of consulting experience in training, marketing and business communications.  

DOC has served in an Account Services Director function for the past
20 years, serving Fortune 100 companies such as Ford, General Motors, TEAMHealth, IPC Healthcare, SVS Vision, The Wellness Plan, Detroit Area Agency on Aging, Nissan, Saab, Motorola Paging, Bell South, UAW-GM and UAW-Ford.  He also has experience working with local governmental units, including Monroe Public Schools, the City of Plymouth, and the Washtenaw County Intermediate School District.

Prior to that, he served as a Vice President-Training Operations Director in a
sales-support role, focusing on the successful execution of training, marketing,
public relations and communications projects for Detroit-area automotive clients.  

In terms of basic qualifications, O’Connor has consulted, trained and facilitated for many, many private and public sector customers. This hands-on training and facilitation has been conducted throughout the years at all levels of an organization, including hourly employees, salaried supervisors, executive leaders and elected officials.

DOC is a “super-generalist” who understands project management (budgets, schedules and quality control functions), how to write/edit, how to manage coach and lead large staffs, how to develop media strategies and messages, how to lead training and communication initiatives and how to service internal and external customers to get the job done for you.

DOC began his career as a journalist, serving as the Managing Sports Editor and Business Editor for the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers in suburban Detroit for 10 years. He also was the News Editor for the West Bloomfield Eccentric. He earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing/Management from Wayne State University in Detroit and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mathematics (with secondary teaching certification) from the
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.  He also is a Certified Focus Group Moderator through the Burke Institute in Cincinnati.

He is the co-author of a newly-published book called TARGETED TRAINING® , A “How To” Guide for Changing Employee Behavior in 30-Minute Intervals.


Political Leadership:
O’Connor is an elected Trustee on the Novi Board of Education (suburban Detroit school district), so he has a comprehensive understanding for the need to re-think and re-evaluate core government services because of the turndown of the National economy. He also is a Master Board Member of the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB). O'Connor also earned a Fellowship for the Class of 2010 in the Michigan Political Leadership Program (MPLP), sponsored by Michigan State University.  


Selected Accomplishments:

  • Organized and facilitated an extensive recruiting/hiring process to staff a $12-million Saturn launch initiative
  • Spearheaded two (2) separate corporate culture initiatives through Quality and Diversity training programs for labor and management personnel at both UAW-Ford and UAW-GM
  • Sold, managed and produced the design, development and delivery of a $10-million Oldsmobile Training Matrix program – a comprehensive creative solution to integrating all the national marketing, training and rewards programs for dealership personnel. This account started at $300,000.
  • Managed vision alignment and business objectives during a reorganization process for a 6-person sports department in the newspaper industry
  • Managed and produced the design, development and delivery of a $3-million Audi communications/training network during a very complex political time when Audi products were under media attack for unintended acceleration problems
  • Designed, developed and produced a $5-million-dollar, co-op incentive program for Motorola Paging.  Served as an extension of Motorola’s Marketing staff.  Traveled all over the country and made sales presentations to the Marketing Directors of Motorola’s top customers (AT&T wireless, PageNet, Air Touch, etc.)
